What do drugs do to your body?
A drug when inhaled, objected, smoked, consumed, absorbed via a patch on the skin, or dissolved under the tongue, affect the function of the central nervous system, altering perception, mood or consciousness.
Taken in excess causes depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, Sedation or drowsiness, Slowed movement, delayed reactions, difficulty breathing or shallow breathing, reduced heart rate, brain damage, collapsed veins or scarred veins from injections, infections and diseases such as HIV and in the end leads to DEATH.
Has our education failed so horribly that 75% of Indian homes have at least one drug user, sometimes as young as nine? 35% of children have a history of substance abuse, especially kids on street, working and trafficked. It is a happy feeling to see the youth gaining knowledge. However, it is a terrible feeling seeing them gaining knowledge in the wrong field.
We are aware how peer groups influence this habit. We know it is the wrong kind of influence. We know how parents ignore their kids. We know it is the lack of education. However, is it that difficult to say a NO?
Do you want to get high? NO
Do you want drugs? NO
Do you want to get addicted? NO
Do you want to ruin your life? NO
Do you want to harm your body? NO
Do you want a painful death? NO
Nobody can pressurise you once you say a NO, because when a person says NO. It means NO.
In spite of THE NARCOTIC DRUGS AND PSYCHOTROPIC SUBSTANCES ACT, 1985, it is illegal for a person to produce/manufacture/cultivate, possess, sell, purchase, transport, store, and/or consume any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance. However, it is still out there. The youth is affected and you and I are the ones to stop it. Take a stand and make them say NO.

Mankind, a word always considered to refer to the species Homo sapiens, is always understood in its literal state :The Vikings , the Huns and the Goths, the tyrants of the WWII and finally the present day “Orange Presidents” refuse to read between the lines. The most socially appealing phrase in modern day politics “ For the betterment of mankind and ever-progressing humanity “ is actually a double edged blade. Mother Earth since the past few decades is witnessing a conflict of self interests between the common man ( Its our own inferiority complex that makes us common) and these self proclaimed monarchs. Their beliefs on the Theory Of Humanity clash, the republic believes that humanity is nothing but a tool , a killswitch, against oppression and a common term for anticorruption, gender equality and all the other modern day problems , while the sovereign , i believe , does not have ideals for the same. This hazy nature of the squabble, buries a bitter truth that these prevalent issues are the nodes of a spider’s web , ready to entrap our intellect and blur our emotional judgement. This web although intricate, is rather straightforward to comprehend.
Starting off with the barter system, man started conferring values on objects, introducing the idea for currency, and hence creating a firm foundation for the concept of money. This five-lettered, two syllabled word overtook discovery and invention to the top, where it governed everyone’s reputation in society and hence led to class differences. These “class differences ” are the ancestors to all forms of present day social evil. When man divided himself,it naturally set up perpetual hatred for the other classes.Hence, for the rich to remain at the top, they had to introduce a force everyone would fear, that is when they adulterated the idea of religion to their own whims and fancies. This gave birth the orthodox methods hence propagating Gender Differences. The poor(lower) classes had to exist on the borderline for life and death to make ends meet. The higher classes lured them for illegal, hence easy, service giving them financial support in return. The need for money via service, then transformed to greed, giving rise to Corruption. The fraudulent nature led to cravings for more power , man wanted to expand its reign , creating Territories, and thus more Communal Conflicts arose.
Obviously these conflicts, resulted in more aggression , which was Terrorism in its primitive stage. This nexus has been in the making since eons and its bearing its fruit in the present. This idea however dark or pessimistic, is the truth. One can ask “IS THERE A SOLUTION TO THIS ?”: Well the present state of mankind is suspended between Good and Bad. All these conflicts happening are relative to each side. All we may need is a task which has a single objective viewpoint to the problem or we can reverse engineer the entire problem altogether. And then!!! I feel that the future can hit us with the biggest Tsunami possible, all we need is unity and a selfless motive.

There are a lot of thing that can be said for making the definition of culture; Culture can be defined as the sum of actions and habits of a large group. Behaviors of people, languages that they use, religion and other beliefs, traditions, using of gestures, foods, clothing choices, music choices… They are the parts of it and together they create the culture perception. It can be seen that there are more than 150 definitions of culture have been made in the books but still it changes from people to people because it is a subjective judgment and the definition of it depends on how people see it.
People are in the center of it because they are the ones who create the culture. Sociologists have done a lot of research about culture and people or how it effects people behavior but only thing that people talk is how culture collects everybody together. It is true that culture brings people together but it is also the greatest factor of the discrimination of today’s society.
Culture brings the stereotypes and prejudices with itself. All parts of culture have an effective role in creating this generalizations but unlike what is known, stereotypes are not only about countries. There are types of stereotypes such as gender stereotypes, country stereotypes or group stereotypes. For example Italian people eat pasta every day or they use a lot of gestures while they are talking, women are bad at driving car, all teenagers are rebels or Goths wear only black clothes. Normally, stereotypes aren’t seen as a bad thing and these kind of stereotypes are harmless but there are some stereotypes that effect today’s World in a bad way; Muslims are terrorists is an example of this kind of stereotypes because it causes people to have prejudices between each other and makes people fear. They cause the racism and otherization by making people to have mold judgments.
Stereotypes come from mold judgments but the reason of this is that it is easier for people to act as a part of their culture which has already been defined a long time ago instead of identifying themselves. It can be seen that people have problems of defining themselves because they don’t try to know themselves and that’s why they have identity crisis, in this situation they choose to do what their cultural model says instead of thinking for themselves. For example a patriarchal order system can be seen in the Anatolian parts of Turkey. It can be seen that Turkish men usually say that they are Anatolian men and they use it as an excuse of their behaviors but all men can’t be the same just because they come from the same region, so it can’t be the excuse of their behaviors. Every person in this World have a personality which creates their own culture, so they can’t be define in a generalization culture model.
When children are raised to be aware of the idea that everybody is different, they grow up with a more conscious mind and they become more open-minded. It can be seen that countries who give an importance to this idea have more peaceful environments because people from those countries respect each other and they are aware of that everybody is independent beyond their cultures, their nationalities don’t even matter. They have their own cultures just like everybody else but what makes them different is that they don’t move in a general culture model, only thing that they do is respecting others’ ideas and personalities. As an opposite example, Turkey is one of those countries who gives importance only to exam results. Children grow up to be adults who are unconscious of their personalities because they are busy studying those lessons. That’s why they see their cultures as the definition of their characters because they don’t spend a lot of time trying to figure out who they are, they choose to be assimilated to their general culture as it is easier. They are unaware of individualism. A lot of violence news can be seen because of this; a man beats someone because he believes that what other man has been doing is against to the Turkish culture, they don’t think that they have their own values, only thing that matters is moving appropriate to Turkish culture for them. However, these kind of actions are not only valid for Turkish people, acting through the culture is common in most of the countries. This is called “Microaggression Theory” in psychology.
Microaggression theory is first coined by Chester M. Pierce to describe insults and injustices which has been made by white American people against to African Americans. Microaggressions are the everyday verbal, nonverbal, and environmental slights, snubs, or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, which communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized group membership. In many cases, these hidden messages may invalidate the group identity or experiential reality of target persons, demean them on a personal or group level, communicate they are lesser human beings, suggest they do not belong with the majority group, threaten and intimidate, or relegate them to inferior status and treatment.
While microaggressions are generally discussed from the perspective of race and racism any marginalized group in our society may become targets: people of color, women, LGBT persons, those with disabilities, religious minorities, and so on. For example a White woman clutches their purse or checks their wallet as a Black or Latino man approaches or passes them. (Hidden message: You and your group are criminals.). "So.. You are an Asian, right?" "She is really pretty for a black girl." These kind of microaggression actions don’t seem to be important for people who has been doing these but it is a result of racism and it makes “other” people feel discriminated by society, even if it has been doing unintentionally. However, actions cause by racism are not always had been as harmless as only making some people feel discriminated; there are a lot of people who has been killed only because of their races or religions.
As I said before, culture may cause people to be together but it also divides people if they don’t think as person but think in a general culture perception without considering their own personalities and values . No matter what it has been doing the effects of culture start by one person than it continues by effecting the larger. Making a change especially on culture is hard and it needs a lot of time; racism and nationalism can’t be ignored and they will always be in the World as long as the humans and nationalities exist, but they can be reduced by obtain the intercultural communication among the young people, so a better World with more tolerance can be more than an idea.

Social Networking has surely revolutionized the internet age and it has made our lives easier and more efficient. Most of us use social networking platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat etc. on a daily basis because it helps us connect to people, communicate faster, promote ideas and do many more things. However as with everything, the wonderful world of social media has a dark side. One of the problematic aspect is the potential for social media scams which affects millions of people every year. However if you aren’t aware of this issue, with some knowledge of what to look out for you will be able to protect yourselves from becoming a victim of a scam.
In the last one year India witnessed a 156% rise in social media scam and is now the second most targeted country in the whole world for cybercrime. It has been reported that 94% of these scams were spread through manual sharing of links leading to fraudulent websites. India’s increasing social media population is becoming a favoured target of scammers. Scammers are using social media and taking advantage of the trust people have in their own social circles to spread their scams, fake links and phishing. Cyber Security is improving and getting better day by day but so are the malwares and computer viruses.
Listed below are the top methods used by scammers:
These scams come in various types and it might also include some genuine information about you obtained from your social media account to intimidate you and make it sound realistic. That’s why don’t put too much personal information out there.
These are just a few of the thousands of ways one could be scammed. There are new ways created each day and scammers are getting smarter and better with time.
A few things you should keep in mind:
If you ever are a victim of a scam report it immediately since it can take time to track down a scammer or the scammer might be located at a place from where it would be difficult to get justice.
Educate other people especially those who are new to the world of social media with all that you know about cybercrime and save them from being a victim of a scam since cybercrime has become a major issue in today’s world. If we continue spreading awareness and take preventive measures we can reduce cybercrime. Together we can fight this!

It's always exciting to see a piece of work that I love and admire adapted into the silver screen and with the improvement of technology, CGI and the movie industry as a whole we're started to see more and more great stories, that we could only imagine, come to life before our very own eyes. There have been a lot of literature and comic book adaptations in Hollywood over the years and the successful ones shared one simple characteristic: accuracy.
The studios like Warner Bros. and Disney have proven that the more you are accurate to your base material the more successful your movie can be... I understand that the massive blockbuster movies can't exactly be same as the comic books as it would not fit the idea of cinema. But this studios have been accurate to their material and succeeded in the box office, as fans enjoy seeing accurate depictions of their favorite characters. So when you see any person from any nationality saying that they didn't like the race changed version of his/her favorite character, don't be so quick to label him/her as a racist. They are more likely just upset the characters they have been waiting for years adapted into a live action movie isn't as accurate as they dreamed. It's about casting the right actor to the role whether it be Batman, Superman, Abraham Lincoln or Malcolm X. Whoever they need to cast would be who looks, feels and acts like their literature counterpart. In today’s world major studios do that with changing the characters race.
I can accept this racial change if only that decision makes the movie, the plot and the character better, more appealing. Recently, there has been a lot of talk about diversity in Hollywood mainly in the superhero movies, the most money-making films today. There has been talks of gender diversity as well as race diversity and so on... I couldn't agree more that we need diversity, especially in the blockbuster movies and actually we're getting that diversity slowly. But here is where it starts to crack down; when this becomes a money-making scheme and loses all its true meaning. The studios don't see any color except for green, they just want the money and the reason why we started to get diversity is because there is demand for it. It's all about studios image, it has become a race amongst studios that which one will have the most diverse cast.
You can see this in all the comic book related mediums; they started to write Afro-American Captain America story arcs, they casted a non-accurate Flash in "Batman v Superman" and a more non-accurate version of the Kid Flash in the Flash TV series, the all-female charactered Spider-Man universe movie that Sony plans to do are not actually trying to be diverse they are just cheap tricks to pass on society's demands as well as fulling their pockets. The first example of this fake diversity was casting of Michael B. Jordan in the last Fantastic Four movie. People argued that you can change a characters race as long as it doesn't affect the storyline, plot or the characters relationship with others and I agree with that idea. But the fact that Joe Storm and Sue Storm are siblings has a huge importance for the story and it's a insult to the original material. But it is not because that I don't love Michael B. Jordan or I think he is not a good actor. I was against it too because that was a fake diversity attempt.
If those studios really want to have diversity in their movies it should make perfect sense or be the perfect choice for the role like Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury or Michael Clarke Duncan's Kingpin even Lawrence Fishbourne's Perry White in the Man of Steel, these are real attempts for diversity and change. When an actor is perfect for the role it isn't faked diversity and I must say I'm pretty hopeful for Jason Momoa's Aquaman.
But some characters are legends, they are so engraved in the pop culture as their own characteristics that they may ever exist as real people in real life history. Just like you can't cast a fat or bald person as Superman you can't change his race in order to gain viewers attention. If the studios wants to bring a true diversity to Hollywood I really want these characters not to be called Superman, Batman or Spider-Man, they should be unique and original characters. They should be unknown and original, these characters need to engrave themselves into the pop culture the way Guardians of the Galaxy did. Changing a characters gender, race or characteristics but keeping the name not only laziness but also degrading in all ways as it will be insulting to the writer, artist and even the character as it will always be remembered as the second best or "that version" of the character. It's just taking advantage of that characters popularity...
If the movie industry wants true diversity they should give original characters to shine and create more opportunities to young artists in the business. There are countless great characters with unique stories. Let us see Blue Beetle, Static Shock, Ms. Marvel or Namor on the big screen. We need more diversity of course but not for studios to show off. We need true, meaningful diversity and I have great hope for this to happen as the world we live in has become more globalized than ever and I believe that it has become a must that every person, race, nationality should be represented equally and accurately on the big screen.

I want to apologise to all the women I have called pretty before I have called them brave or intelligent. It seems such an ordinary thing to call a girl pretty and a man strong. However, it is not. Women can be strong with red lipstick and flowery dresses. They can conquer the world by crushing the necks of their enemies under their 6 inch heels. Girls have always been taught to be things like pretty, sensitive, petite and lady-like. Nobody ever told them that it is okay to have a husky voice, short hair and look bold. Everyone is a different kind of beautiful. There is the girl who rocks that pixie cut. The girl who wears cowboy boots and smiles as wide as the sea's perpetual flow. There is that girl who wears glasses and you swear you can see galaxies in her eyes. That girl who has a goofy laugh but is so loved. The girl who lives across the street wears a red dress and Nike; she could light up the whole damn sky. They are all beautiful in their own way but they are taught to believe differently.
In fact, the Disney princesses have so much to offer. The Disney princesses that we grew up with should be the females we look up to.
Give me Ariel, gambling with everything she has to go on an adventure to see what is out there.
Give me Mulan, wielding her sword to protect those she love, to prove what is right.
Give me Lilo, finding beauty in everything, holding onto her passion although the world branded her a freak.
Give me Belle, seeing the beast in the man and the man in the beast, letting her own fairytale unfold because she believes.
Give me Cinderella, rising from the ashes to be the princess she deserves to be, give me to a woman who remembered to be kind.
Give me Snow White, who found kindness in others when people who were supposed to take care of her failed.
Give me Rapunzel, for so long loyal to a mother who did not care for her. For someone so abused yet so unafraid.
Give me Jasmine, accustomed to the touch of the finest silk but fierce and true enough to let her heart touch by a street rat.
Give me princesses who are strong, kind and fierce. Give me beauty and grace and power and will. Give me something to laugh at when a man condescendingly calls me a princess and thinks that he has shown me my place. Give me a throne and I will reign. Give me a voice and I will sing to you a song of glittery queens who found their palaces. Give me a dream and I will fight for it.
Your beauty is not defined by your skin colour or your eyebrows being on point. It is the time when you pay your bills with you head held high, when you remember to be compassionate and humble. It is when you stay up all night just to be somebody's shoulder to cry on. It is the way the sunlight falls on your skin and the laugh that echoes in your house. It is the way you like to walk along the beach and let the ocean draw you close. Powerful, unceasing and the unspeakable beauty.

Humankind is curious. One of the issues that humans are curious about is the future. The world is getting more complicated every year. The balances are becoming less clear every year. Sadly, we lose our humanity every year against our ambitions. In this article, it will be a question that we will look for answers;
“Can we build the future?”
Building can have many meanings but if we look for building the future it will definitely be about education. Different systems are applied for education in different parts of the world but did you think before that what is the reason of all of these education systems? “getting a job” , “gaining social status”, “earning money for satisfaction” may be your answers. The best answer to this question is actually the first exit of education, “Being a human”.
Education has begun as a system that against to our primalization and better understanding of each other. Every day in the globalizing world the quality of education is measured by how we crush each other. You must be successful against your classmates, you must be successful against your peers etc.
The establishment of States is seen as the agreement of people living in the same region. People who are in the same team after the establishment of the States are now in a position to gain an advantage over the different states. What I am trying to explain is that the reason for the actual exit of the education does not coincide with the understanding of today's education. Egoism has been applied on these systems. This egoism is not only person-specific, also states are shaped in a way too. Because people who are in the same state as the agreement are closed to work together with other states in their essence to glorify themselves.
According to psychologists, the conflict of egoism brings violence. Since the states enter this category, conflict means war. You may see me as a person who is trying to create conspiracy theories in every complexity but the only thing that I do is go through over the cause and effect relation.
I'm just trying to reflect on the expectations of today's world. It is necessary to correct the education to correct all these. We should learn mathematics for exercising our brain not for being a part of a race. We should learn science for involving to the innovation and developing technology and not for getting a applause when we say information that we memorize. We should learn social sciences to think more consciously and not to memorize dates, places or perspectives.
If I am summarizing, we have to be educated for our personal development and increasing humanity not for our ambitions which is frazzle all of us. There are some countries where education is at a fairly good level but in some countries education is seen as a way to exploit humanity. We people should know that ideas are immortal, power balances are still in the hands of mankind. We have to act to finish this exploitative system, and there is only one way to improve ourselves until we succeed it; reading books. You can not show me any country that has a high rate of reading books and has lagged behind in civilization.
Books give us a life experience so we learn not to make the same mistake. It creates an angle of view to us so that multiple systems of thought are found. I think that the agreements for both people and states can be successfully achieved with high consciousness by throwing egoism on the edge. This is how we find the true meaning of education and reach the world that we dream of.
We must be conscious and work on this path for a better world. Books can change the world. Building the future will succeed in this way.

India is a blood deprived country, despite of having 1.2 billion people, India faces blood shortage of 3 Million units. The problem can be sorted if an additional 2 percentage of Indians start donating blood.
The shelf life of a blood unit is 35-42 days hence the stock has to be replenished every once in a while. Statistics show that there are 234 million major operations in India, 63 million trauma-induced surgeries, 31 million cancer-related procedures and 10 million pregnancy related complications which require blood transfusions.
Apart from these there are also disorders like sickle cell anaemia, thalassemia and haemophilia that require repeated blood transfusions.
Some quick facts about blood
Donating blood has it’s own perks, well apart from act of good deed you received a bundle of health benefits.
Health benefits of blood donation include reduced risk of hemochromatosis. Hemochromatosis is a health condition that arises due to excess absorption of iron by the body. This may be inherited or may be caused due to alcoholism, anaemia or other disorders. Regular blood donation may help in reducing iron overload.
Blood donation may also help in lowering risk of cancer. By donating blood, the iron stores in the body are maintained at healthy levels. And the reduction in iron levels in the body is linked with low cancer risk.
Healthy heart and liver
Blood donation is beneficial in reducing risk of heart and liver ailments caused by iron overload in the body. Intake of iron rich diet may increase the iron levels in the body and since only limited proportions can be absorbed excess iron gets stored in heart, liver and pancreas. This in turn increases the risk of cirrhosis, liver failure, damage to pancreas, and heart abnormalities like irregular heart rhythms. Blood donation helps in maintaining the iron levels and reduces the risk of various health ailments.
Regular blood donation reduces the weight of the donors. This is helpful to those who are obese and are at higher risk of cardiovascular diseases and other health disorders. However, the blood donation should not be very frequent and you may consult your doctor before donating blood to avoid any health issues.
New blood cells
After donating blood, the body works to replenish the blood loss. This stimulates the production of new blood cells and in turn helps in maintaining good health.
Remember to donate blood and remember that a normal interval between whole blood donations is 16 weeks (minimum 12 weeks) but no more than three donations a year are collected from female donors because of their more precarious iron status.
To give blood you need neither extra strength nor extra food, and you will save a life.

With great power comes great electricity bills!
If nothing was learnt, nothing was taught!
If you can’t convince them, confuse them!
You see where this is heading right? Probably NO :(
But you see where an ambulance is heading right? Then why don’t you make way for it? Nowadays people know the price of everything but the value of none. Only if we would realise the value of the patient's life in the ambulance.
Let's glance at the saddening stats first.
In India 1 out of 5 patients die due to ambulance delays while in developed countries, due to a green corridor created by the citizens the death rate is 1 out of 200. The probability of death is reduced from 20% to 0.5%. That's about 40 times lower.
An Ambulance is the most crucial vehicle out there, something which draws a line of hope of survival. But traffic and ignorance makes that line finer.
There are a few who do make way for an ambulance, a few who take advantage of it and rush to skip the traffic and a lot who are just confused of the fact as to how to react? What way to go? Should I pull over or just speed up to make way?
Well luckily this article is for those people who simply don’t know what to do?
First thing when you hear the sirens or see the blaring lights, STOP & PULL OVER. It makes it easier for the ambulance driver to zoom through the traffic when all cars have stoped because otherwise they have to maintain extreme caution which eventually slows them down.
When you slow down or stop and move to left, the vehicles ahead too get the space to move to left and the green corridor could be created in no time.
But do not jam on your brakes in the middle of the road or make any other erratic deviation from predictable driving habits.
Additionally if you are approached from behind by an emergency vehicle and do not have a safe place to clear the roadway, proceed at the speed limit with your blinker on to an appropriate shoulder or turn out.
A lesser known fact is that we can cut the red light if an Ambulance is stuck behind us. People are afraid of the fine which comes next. But don't worry it is completely legal to let an emergency vehicle drift through by cutting the red light!
Let's hope that over time it will lead to reduction in the number of deaths due to ambulance delays by making drivers more sensitive to the patient whose life hangs midway in the bargain.
Little deeds like these could potentially save lives!
So next time you hear the sirens ACT SMART & GIVE WAY.

There will always be two aspects in Life. Two sides of the coin, Good-Bad, Illumination-Darkness, Hope-Sorrow. Life is like climbing a hill, if it goes up, then you should be darn sure that you will come down but that’s not the end because the process goes on. Over the time we get use to this process and it feels normal.
The dark spot caused because of this ignorance is what we call Shadow of Life. An initiative of Leo Club of Juhu to create awareness about the things which we ignore and tag it normal. Buying fire crackers from a shop which sells them at cheap prices, could child labour be involved? Just a thought worth thinking or when we see an ambulance behind us, yes we try to move out of the way but do we take it with utmost seriousness? Many might but not all. We are not saying that everything has a dark side but many things do and we need to be aware of these aliments, to be better informed, so that we can deal with these issues/situations in a mature fashion.
The Shadows Of Life won’t restrict itself to such issues, it will tend to explore all the possible problems which need awareness, be it women empowerment, be it health or anything one feels awareness is needed.
Leo Club of Juhu has started this initiative to create the required awareness through our social media platforms and our blog. The Shadows Of Life is like crowdsourcing where anyone can contribute with their knowledge about any issues persisting and needs a platform to spread awareness. A one of a kind project which shall last for many years coming and expects to touch and changes lives around us.
