The True Essence Of Beauty

7/9/2017

"Here's to the strong women. May we be them, may we know them and may we raise them." This is what struck me when I saw these girls at Save The Children, India.

Their lives revolved around each other. It is said that blood is thicker than water and we witnessed the same. The girls we met were previously trafficked and then rescued and put into shelter homes. And no matter what they have gone through, the smiles on their faces were wider than the perpetual flow of the ocean. They have each other and that is all they need. When we gave them hygiene kits, half-stitched cloth materials, jewellery making boxes and sewing kits, they taught us the true value of gratefulness.

We are blessed with several things but, we never fail to grumble. They were satisfied with the little things they have. Majorly, we saw that if we have even one person to count on at the end of the day, we are more than blessed. However, some of us fail to realise that. These girls were strong and fierce and above all, supported each other. They dream and they don't fear to dream. And they're rigorously working towards that dream. They inspired each one of us to not only dream but, the motivation to work towards it. And truly, there is no force equal to a woman determined to rise from the ashes of a Phoenix. There is nothing more rare and beautiful than a woman unapologetically being herself and comfortable with her imperfections. That, is the true essence of beauty.

Food For Hunger
The Alpha Leo Club experience

On the 10th of December, Saturday, the Leo Club of Juhu along with the Alpha Leo Club of SVKM JV Parekh International School set out to help the underprivileged by distributing food amongst the slums and the road dwellers. With Warm hearts all the members worked hard and helped collect enough Biryani (rice) to satisfy almost 80 stomachs.
“They are in dire need of clean food and water, many of whom are single mothers with their children, who are suffering bitterly without a proper housing structure with necessary facilities that are in accordance with good standards of living and health facilities.”
Leo Pritha Bhangale

With wholehearted commitment and zeal, the Leos visited three locations in various parts of the city and worked collectively to make sure nobody left with an empty stomach. It was the concerted effort between the Leos and the gratified smiles of the children, that truly made the evening a success. At every location we were warmly welcomed by the chortles of the toddlers, ecstatic to see us. The activity started off at 7:00pm in Juhu, Mumbai and ended at 9:30pm in Andheri, Mumbai. We were able to meet with all our aims and had constant smiles that truly conveyed how content we felt towards the end.
Being a part of Alpha Leo and gaining the opportunity provide help, in such a large scale project was truly exhilarating. It gave us an opportunity to give back to the society in a productive manner and help out someone in a positive way. May it be a small act of kindness or a very liberal noble deed. The Alpha Leo Club of SVKM JV Parekh International school looks forward to helping out the society in boundless ways  in the close future.

Sparsh - Our Alpha Club Views

A few months ago, the dedicated members of the Leo Club of Juhu came up with a bright idea of providing happiness to the little toddlers living in the villages near Mumbai. “Why not build a safe playground outside their schools for them to play?” With constant dedication and hard work on their part, the plan was finally put into action resulting in 17 well equipped playgrounds being built right outside their schools. To inaugurate this admirable achievement, the Leo Club of Juhu along with the Alpha Leo Club of SVKM JV Parekh International School visited Vajeshwari on the 4th of December, 2016.

The members of both the clubs reported by 7:00am and reached Vajeshwari by 9:30am. The aim of the trip was to inaugurate schools, while also witnessing the usefulness of the playgrounds. On arriving at the destination, the members were divided in to two groups, each group visiting 5 villages. In each village, the Leo’s were warmly welcomed by the villagers, with sweets and flowers, as a token to express their gratitude. After interacting with the teachers and their students, the members finally got a chance to play with the little ones on their beloved playground. The silent smile and the enthusiasm that lit up their faces at the mention of the word “playground” was enough to tell us that our efforts had paid off.
The fact that we, as members of Alpha Leo Club, could essentially bring about a difference in their lives just by adding a few swings, inspires us to carry out many such projects. For no act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted. The Alpha Leo Club of SVKM International School hopes to carry out many such projects in the distant future.

The Anganwadi Project,
Spreading a smile was the key motive and to see that accomplish was a dream come true experience . The impact of the project was overwhelming . The emotions and the mesmerising smile of the little ones proved that the club is heading to the right path.
This was the first rural project that i have attended and this only makes me promise myself that now I wouldnt miss any other rurals days.
- Leo Meghna Agrawal

Happiness is not something ready made .It comes from your actions. Life is full of choices but i choose to make others happy and bring smile on their face:).The smile which I saw was overwhelming. It just changed the way of looking at them. Their emotions just touched my heart.
-Leo Krunali Shah

I loved it when I saw all the children enjoying sliding, swinging and just simply running around. Just being surrounded by smiling happy faces gave me a wonderful feeling and made me forget about all my problems and just appreciate the happiness I could spread. I wish I could have stayed in that moment forever.
-Leo Manav Hirani

One of the luckiest things that can happen to you in life is, I think, to have a happy childhood. The only thing luckier than that would be making someone else's childhood happy.

Cardinal Gracias Destitutes Home is an old age home located in Santacruz West. It takes care of close to 50 senior citizens. We donated medicines and adult diapers for this institution. Also, a short interactive session was organized for them to get some entertainment. Grey hair, wrinkled faces don’ t stop these senior citizens from smiling brightly and laughing their hearts out! Indeed a great initiative of serving the elderly and to give them some dose of laughter that they may otherwise not avail.

Leo Club Of Juhu, in collaboration with Make A Difference took up the initiative of beautifying some part of the Vile Parle Railway station.
The Mumbai local is the necessity for lakhs of commuters on a daily basis. It is a backbone, an integral part of this city. It is our social responsibility to keep the railway stations as beautiful and as clean as possible, giving the citizens a treat for their eyes.
With such a big canvas and so much colour to throw at it, 20-25 Leo members demonstrated their creative instincts and great coordination to paint entire pictures on walls and staircases. These pictures, approved by the Railway Ministry, symbolise the essence of Mumbai.
Everyone worked tirelessly and enthusiastically for 3 days in the evenings.

The "Can" In Cancer

21/10/2016

Ghadge Maharaj Dharamshala, Dadar. 150 kits of grains donated yet again. Another victory for us in terms of reaching out to our beneficiaries. But, we don't just provide materialistic things to people who are needy, we provide them the warmth and the support they crave for. We provide them the hope and the fighting spirit to believe that there is a 'CAN' in Cancer. As we were serving food to those people, it was not just about feeding them food, but we were also feeding our soul and earning someone's good wishes and blessings.
Tremendous support received from our parent club, our extended parents, the Lion members. We were supposed to be just the helping hands for them, yet they allowed us to take up responsibility and handle the project.
In no time, this particular project has culminated to one of the very successful projects done on a continuous basis.

The Child Within Us!

The Vatsalya foundation located in Mahalaxmi West is a Shelter Home. It is a safe and secure place for the children who have an oppressive home environment. The children are gradually introduced to structured and disciplined life through a constructive group living experience. The children are involved in decision making, planning and implementing the activities. The Shelter Home at Anand Niketan, Mahalaxmi (W) has two multi-purpose rooms with minimal furniture made lively with bright wall colors and attractive pictures. But more than the physical surrounding, it's the environment created by the children themselves that are so very lively and inspiring. Any visitor coming to the Shelter Home cannot miss the warmth and openness that it has. Coming from various difficult backgrounds the children truly find a home of their own at the Shelter Home of Vatsalya. Children have access to various basic services like education, health care, recreation and counseling for their growth and development. They are treated as family members.
Leo club of Juhu took this initiative to donate food grains for about 200 kilograms and e-learning for 8th and 9th standard in Hindi, board games and some story books to this foundation. As these kids need proper food and learning as they are our upcoming bright future for India so the food grains will give them nutrition and e-learning as education. The best available food grains were given to the kids so that they eat healthy foods.
On the execution day, that is 4th October 2016 the members of Leo club of Juhu showed enthusiasm to come till Mahalaxmi and showed their excitement. October service week head Leo Kathan, President Kshitij, Treasurer Leo Rahul and Joint Secretary Leo Shailja were present at The Vatsalya Foundation on Wednesday at 3:30 pm to show their excitement and execution. They also made the kids play passing the parcel with the ball, musical chairs and taught them to always help each other and also had a fun and interactive time with the kids. I personally thank everyone to conduct this project with such great spirit and enthusiasm. It is a heartiest thank you to The Leo club of Juhu to let me conduct this project.
Being the head of this project it gave me happiness and peace and joy in me when we could fulfill their requirements and seeing the joy on the face of the kids was a different pleasure for me. Our service has helped so many kids so the joy they saw, all the fun, and happiness makes me remind this day into my memory forever. It’s a mixture of seeing the kids happy as well the Leo’s also turning into kids while playing was really joyful. I then understood the importance of humanity and helping people and getting their blessings as well. Looking forward to doing more such projects. Thank you Leo club of Juhu for this great opportunity.

"If you are poor, though you dwell in the busy marketplace, no one will inquire about you; if you are rich, though you dwell in the heart of the mountains, you will have distant relatives" - Chinese Proverb

Every day we encounter people on the street who are needy of basic human rights, perhaps we show sympathy once a while but most of the times we are too caught up in our busy lives. An initiative by Leo club of Juhu, named "An Amazing Meal" which was brought to life with the Help of Robin Hood Army. "An Amazing Meal" was a task to provide food to the poor, and not only food but the food which is cooked by our dear ones with Love. We went out with almost 20 Leos with bag full of home made Pav Bhaji and covering areas of Andheri. I have to add that the people we served showed us love and they were heart felt for our efforts. Amazing reaction from them, we fell in love with the moment and pardon me for being melodramatic but that was the moment.  After, we ended the day with a great plate of home made Pav Bhaji brought by our members.
