Iridescent Faeries
I want to apologise to all the women I have called pretty before I have called them brave or intelligent. It seems such an ordinary thing to call a girl pretty and a man strong. However, it is not. Women can be strong with red lipstick and flowery dresses. They can conquer the world by crushing the necks of their enemies under their 6 inch heels. Girls have always been taught to be things like pretty, sensitive, petite and lady-like. Nobody ever told them that it is okay to have a husky voice, short hair and look bold. Everyone is a different kind of beautiful. There is the girl who rocks that pixie cut. The girl who wears cowboy boots and smiles as wide as the sea's perpetual flow. There is that girl who wears glasses and you swear you can see galaxies in her eyes. That girl who has a goofy laugh but is so loved. The girl who lives across the street wears a red dress and Nike; she could light up the whole damn sky. They are all beautiful in their own way but they are taught to believe differently. In fact, the Disney princesses have so much to offer. The Disney princesses that we grew up with should be the females we look up to. Give me Ariel, gambling with everything she has to go on an adventure to see what is out there. Give me Mulan, wielding her sword to protect those she love, to prove what is right. Give me Lilo, finding beauty in everything, holding onto her passion although the world branded her a freak. Give me Belle, seeing the beast in the man and the man in the beast, letting her own fairytale unfold because she believes. Give me Cinderella, rising from the ashes to be the princess she deserves to be, give me to a woman who remembered to be kind. Give me Snow White, who found kindness in others when people who were supposed to take care of her failed. Give me Rapunzel, for so long loyal to a mother who did not care for her. For someone so abused yet so unafraid. Give me Jasmine, accustomed to the touch of the finest silk but fierce and true enough to let her heart touch by a street rat. Give me princesses who are strong, kind and fierce. Give me beauty and grace and power and will. Give me something to laugh at when a man condescendingly calls me a princess and thinks that he has shown me my place. Give me a throne and I will reign. Give me a voice and I will sing to you a song of glittery queens who found their palaces. Give me a dream and I will fight for it. Your beauty is not defined by your skin colour or your eyebrows being on point. It is the time when you pay your bills with you head held high, when you remember to be compassionate and humble. It is when you stay up all night just to be somebody's shoulder to cry on. It is the way the sunlight falls on your skin and the laugh that echoes in your house. It is the way you like to walk along the beach and let the ocean draw you close. Powerful, unceasing and the unspeakable beauty. Leo Shaili Shah Leo Club of Juhu

Alpha Leo Club of SVKM JV Parekh International school
Tanya Pankaj Joshi 15 December 2016 Food For Hunger The Alpha Leo Club experience On the 10th of December, Saturday, the Leo Club of Juhu along with the Alpha Leo Club of SVKM JV Parekh International School set out to help the underprivileged by distributing food amongst the slums and the road dwellers. With Warm hearts all the members worked hard and helped collect enough Biryani (rice) to satisfy almost 80 stomachs. “They are in dire need of clean food and water, many of whom are single mothers with their children, who are suffering bitterly without a proper housing structure with necessary facilities that are in accordance with good standards of living and health facilities.” Leo Pritha Bhangale With wholehearted commitment and zeal, the Leos visited three locations in various parts of the city and worked collectively to make sure nobody left with an empty stomach. It was the concerted effort between the Leos and the gratified smiles of the children, that truly made the evening a success. At every location we were warmly welcomed by the chortles of the toddlers, ecstatic to see us. The activity started off at 7:00pm in Juhu, Mumbai and ended at 9:30pm in Andheri, Mumbai. We were able to meet with all our aims and had constant smiles that truly conveyed how content we felt towards the end. Being a part of Alpha Leo and gaining the opportunity provide help, in such a large scale project was truly exhilarating. It gave us an opportunity to give back to the society in a productive manner and help out someone in a positive way. May it be a small act of kindness or a very liberal noble deed. The Alpha Leo Club of SVKM JV Parekh International school looks forward to helping out the society in boundless ways in the close future. Leo Tanya Joshi Alpha Leo Club of SVKM JV Parekh International School Leoism teaches you to be a good citizen. Leoism teaches you to be organised. But more over leoism teaches you what teamwork actually means.
Every such organisation or a club has a hierarchy of individuals, given a set of responsibilities. They make sure that the social service oath we all have taken, is fulfilled. In the process of management and execution of projects, the emotion that is in every leo's heart and mind is of eternal happiness and satisfaction. Everybody is grateful and in awe of one another. But what is actually worth watching is how every person is thankful to his team and thinks that his contribution was still less. This gratitude is what makes a person pure and peaceful. Keep up with those amazing words shared by every Leo to one another, that is what makes the experience so special. Leoism doesn't just teach you what a social service is, it teaches you teamwork and appreciation. Leo Krina Mehta Member Of Leo Club of Juhu. A few months ago, the dedicated members of the Leo Club of Juhu came up with a bright idea of providing happiness to the little toddlers living in the villages near Mumbai. “Why not build a safe playground outside their schools for them to play?” With constant dedication and hard work on their part, the plan was finally put into action resulting in 17 well equipped playgrounds being built right outside their schools. To inaugurate this admirable achievement, the Leo Club of Juhu along with the Alpha Leo Club of SVKM JV Parekh International School visited Vajeshwari on the 4th of December, 2016.
The members of both the clubs reported by 7:00am and reached Vajeshwari by 9:30am. The aim of the trip was to inaugurate schools, while also witnessing the usefulness of the playgrounds. On arriving at the destination, the members were divided in to two groups, each group visiting 5 villages. In each village, the Leo’s were warmly welcomed by the villagers, with sweets and flowers, as a token to express their gratitude. After interacting with the teachers and their students, the members finally got a chance to play with the little ones on their beloved playground. The silent smile and the enthusiasm that lit up their faces at the mention of the word “playground” was enough to tell us that our efforts had paid off. The fact that we, as members of Alpha Leo Club, could essentially bring about a difference in their lives just by adding a few swings, inspires us to carry out many such projects. For no act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted. The Alpha Leo Club of SVKM International School hopes to carry out many such projects in the distant future. -Leo Tanisha Agarwal, Alpha Leo Club of SVKM JV Parekh International School Our Leo's reactions after the project Sparsh.
'Making one person smile can change the whole world!Maybe not the whole world , but their world' To see little kids enjoying themselves to the fullest was so satisfying for me - Leo Naishil Mehta Unifying People, Transforming Lives " Leo Club Of Juhu once again proves it's excellence and it's tag line. It was such a great experience seeing little kids with no good financial background getting motivated to choose the path of education. The impact of the project was overwhelming . The emotions and the mesmerising smile of the little ones proved that the club is heading to the right path. This was the first rural project that i have attended and this only makes me promise myself that now I wouldnt miss any other rurals days. - Leo Meghna Agrawal Happiness is not something ready made .It comes from your actions. Life is full of choices but i choose to make others happy and bring smile on their face:).The smile which I saw was overwhelming. It just changed the way of looking at them. Their emotions just touched my heart. -Leo Krunali Shah I loved it when I saw all the children enjoying sliding, swinging and just simply running around. Just being surrounded by smiling happy faces gave me a wonderful feeling and made me forget about all my problems and just appreciate the happiness I could spread. I wish I could have stayed in that moment forever. -Leo Manav Hirani One of the luckiest things that can happen to you in life is, I think, to have a happy childhood. The only thing luckier than that would be making someone else's childhood happy. -Leo Krutant Bilakhia Humankind is curious. One of the issues that humans are curious about is the future. The world is getting more complicated every year. The balances are becoming less clear every year. Sadly, we lose our humanity every year against our ambitions. In this article, it will be a question that we will look for answers;
“Can we build the future?” Building can have many meanings but if we look for building the future it will definitely be about education. Different systems are applied for education in different parts of the world but did you think before that what is the reason of all of these education systems? “getting a job” , “gaining social status”, “earning money for satisfaction” may be your answers. The best answer to this question is actually the first exit of education, “Being a human”. Education has begun as a system that against to our primalization and better understanding of each other. Every day in the globalizing world the quality of education is measured by how we crush each other. You must be successful against your classmates, you must be successful against your peers etc. The establishment of States is seen as the agreement of people living in the same region. People who are in the same team after the establishment of the States are now in a position to gain an advantage over the different states. What I am trying to explain is that the reason for the actual exit of the education does not coincide with the understanding of today's education. Egoism has been applied on these systems. This egoism is not only person-specific, also states are shaped in a way too. Because people who are in the same state as the agreement are closed to work together with other states in their essence to glorify themselves. According to psychologists, the conflict of egoism brings violence. Since the states enter this category, conflict means war. You may see me as a person who is trying to create conspiracy theories in every complexity but the only thing that I do is go through over the cause and effect relation. I'm just trying to reflect on the expectations of today's world. It is necessary to correct the education to correct all these. We should learn mathematics for exercising our brain not for being a part of a race. We should learn science for involving to the innovation and developing technology and not for getting a applause when we say information that we memorize. We should learn social sciences to think more consciously and not to memorize dates, places or perspectives. If I am summarizing, we have to be educated for our personal development and increasing humanity not for our ambitions which is frazzle all of us. There are some countries where education is at a fairly good level but in some countries education is seen as a way to exploit humanity. We people should know that ideas are immortal, power balances are still in the hands of mankind. We have to act to finish this exploitative system, and there is only one way to improve ourselves until we succeed it; reading books. You can not show me any country that has a high rate of reading books and has lagged behind in civilization. Books give us a life experience so we learn not to make the same mistake. It creates an angle of view to us so that multiple systems of thought are found. I think that the agreements for both people and states can be successfully achieved with high consciousness by throwing egoism on the edge. This is how we find the true meaning of education and reach the world that we dream of. We must be conscious and work on this path for a better world. Books can change the world. Building the future will succeed in this way. Leo Feridun Öncel 2nd Vice President Social Media Manager of Agora Leo Club, Turkey (118-R) When we do charity work of such serious nature, on such a big scale, which requires constant attention and dedication, it often wears us down, tires us. Amongst those moments of stress, frustration and anxiety, a funny or sarcastic comment, some droll self-mockery, a laughable joke here and there, not only lightens the mood, but revitalizes the entire team. The laughter helps us bond better, because no one remembers sad and dull moments, it’s these moments which are cherished.
Pleasing people is an art, it’s not a joke(some wordplay). You don’t need “needlessly funny” content(yeah, I did it again), to please the audience, you just need to say or do something smart or stupid. A Tail Twister’s work, apart from being an active member of the Board, requires good amount of imagination, needs the ability to effectively communicate decorous, inoffensive humour, which is as tough as it gets. It takes hours of preparing and practicing the content for a good 10 minute act during the Installation Ceremony, but when you see the smile on the audience’s faces, nothing makes you more proud, tickling their bones, either at your expense, or someone else’s. Seize this opportunity, this is the only platform where you are specially assigned the task to mock and tease. According to Lions Club International, “THE TAIL TWISTER” – The Tail Twister is an officer and the ‘pep master’ of his Lions Club. His duties are to instill enthusiasm and good fellowship in the meetings, and to keep harmony. He is empowered to impose, as well as collect, fines from the members. Collecting fines and making fun of something or someone. My oath for being the Tail Twister is that, “I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.” Heard that before? Leo Ruchir Shah, Leo Club Of Juhu. India is a blood deprived country, despite of having 1.2 billion people, India faces blood shortage of 3 Million units. The problem can be sorted if an additional 2 percentage of Indians start donating blood.
The shelf life of a blood unit is 35-42 days hence the stock has to be replenished every once in a while. Statistics show that there are 234 million major operations in India, 63 million trauma-induced surgeries, 31 million cancer-related procedures and 10 million pregnancy related complications which require blood transfusions. Apart from these there are also disorders like sickle cell anaemia, thalassemia and haemophilia that require repeated blood transfusions. Some quick facts about blood
Donating blood has it’s own perks, well apart from act of good deed you received a bundle of health benefits. Hemochromatosis Health benefits of blood donation include reduced risk of hemochromatosis. Hemochromatosis is a health condition that arises due to excess absorption of iron by the body. This may be inherited or may be caused due to alcoholism, anaemia or other disorders. Regular blood donation may help in reducing iron overload. Anti-cancer benefits Blood donation may also help in lowering risk of cancer. By donating blood, the iron stores in the body are maintained at healthy levels. And the reduction in iron levels in the body is linked with low cancer risk. Healthy heart and liver Blood donation is beneficial in reducing risk of heart and liver ailments caused by iron overload in the body. Intake of iron rich diet may increase the iron levels in the body and since only limited proportions can be absorbed excess iron gets stored in heart, liver and pancreas. This in turn increases the risk of cirrhosis, liver failure, damage to pancreas, and heart abnormalities like irregular heart rhythms. Blood donation helps in maintaining the iron levels and reduces the risk of various health ailments. Weight loss Regular blood donation reduces the weight of the donors. This is helpful to those who are obese and are at higher risk of cardiovascular diseases and other health disorders. However, the blood donation should not be very frequent and you may consult your doctor before donating blood to avoid any health issues. New blood cells After donating blood, the body works to replenish the blood loss. This stimulates the production of new blood cells and in turn helps in maintaining good health. Remember to donate blood and remember that a normal interval between whole blood donations is 16 weeks (minimum 12 weeks) but no more than three donations a year are collected from female donors because of their more precarious iron status. To give blood you need neither extra strength nor extra food, and you will save a life. -Leo Rahul Narula Member of Leo Club Of Juhu |
